Munich, Regensburg and Vienna Tour Overview

Relax. You’re cruising on the Danube, and worries don’t exist on this fine-looking waterway. Germany, Austria or Hungary? You don’t have to choose. You’ll get to explore all three on this 8-day cruise with 3 extra days in Munich and Budapest that is part small town, part big city and all parts good times. Regensburg’s Old Town has an open- air café feel and the highest density of pubs and bars in Germany (and that’s no small feat). Austria’s Wachau Valley is a UNESCO World Heritage site if we’ve ever seen one—its Benedictine Abbey houses the most famous library in Northern Europe. Hungary’s lively capital city offers double the fun, with Buda on one side and Pest on the other. And that’s just the beginning.

Then if the weather’s nice, head to the Stone Bridge to eat, drink and mingle under the moonlight. Regensburg comes alive at night, as you will se
Into beautiful scenery and architecture? Don't pass on Passau. Situated at the intersection of the Danube, Inn and llz rivers, the city boasts some of the best views on the German-Austrian border. Take a hike to one of Passau's best viewpoints: Veste Oberhaus. The views are storybook, allowing you to see the entire city of Passau as well as the surrounding countryside. Get lost in the city’s maze of old town alleys. Get your architecture fix at St. Stephen’s Cathedral, with its distinctive domed towers. Fun fact: The cathedral is also home to one of the largest organs in the world, with 17,974 pipes.
Feeling energized after your morning hike? Grab a bike and cruise down the famous Danube bike path, which is particularly scenic from Passau to Vienna. Your expert guides will lead you on a flat 20-mile route. Reunite with the ship in Engelhartszell, where you can quench your thirst with beer made by Trappist monks.

Spend an evening exploring Austria’s third-largest city, Linz, a leading center for modern media arts. Arrive in port and walk to the striking Ars Electronica Center, which focuses on society, technology and life in the future. No matter which way you turn, there’s something insightful and futuristic to explore in Linz.

For centuries there have been wine and beer cellars in the sandstone hills west of Linz. During the course of the second World War, the existing cellars were extended to giant kilometer-long tunnels for the purpose of air-raid protection by thousands of innocent inmates in the Nazi concentration camp Mauthausen. On this interesting U Time excursion, kick off the evening with a cocktail at one of Linz’s best rooftop bars. Take in the views and chat with your local expert before heading to Limonistollen to get a glimpse into the past at one of Linz’ commemorative WWII sites.
Take a breathtaking (literally) bike tour through the UNESCO Wachau Valley. You’ll travel 20 scenic miles along the Danube, passing the wine villages of Willendorf, St. Michaels, Weissenkirchen and Joching, and meet the ship in Dürnstein with some amazing new memories and photographs.

Dürnstein, Austria, is a beautiful town situated along the Danube River. Explore its restaurants, shops and scenic views to discover why it’s nicknamed the “Pearl of the Wachau.” Take a stroll through the town’s narrow cobblestone streets to historical buildings like the Blue Monastery Church and Abbey. Last but definitely not least, hike up to the famous Dürnstein Castle ruins where Richard the Lionheart was once a prisoner, and have a dream photo op. With expansive views of the Danube River and Wachau Valley, this is a can’t-miss experience.
Wake up, grab a cup of joe and follow your U Host onshore for a morning stroll through Vienna. Head to the Historic Center of Vienna, an area rich in architecture, including Baroque castles, gardens and late -19th-century Ringstrasse lined with grand buildings, monuments and parks. The best way to wake up in the morning is with a tour of beautiful Vienna.

Looking for a night out on the town? Perfect. Your U Host will show you some of the coolest night time spots in Vienna! First, you’ll head to Stephansplatz, a glorious architectural setting and popular meeting up spot for many locals. Then you’ll work your way through the alleyways of the so-called Bermuda Triangle where most night owls stay forever. There are cocktails bars, beer pubs, nightclubs and lots of live music in this famous hotspot. And if you haven’t stopped off for a drink anywhere yet, the tour will conclude around the Danube Canal, where many waterside “beach” bars form a lively social scene every evening. This will be a night to remember!

Your guided tour of Schönbrunn Palace—the former summer residence of the imperial family—includes the staterooms and private apartments of Empress Maria Theresa. Maria Theresa Schönbrunn made it the focus of court life. Today, it plays host to the highest-level politicians in all of Europe. And now—you.

Do as the locals do and hop on the inner-city metro to your next adventure (metro pass included). Just a few stops away, this in-depth tour of Vienna begins in Karlsplatz. Follow your Local Guide towards Charles Church, which is widely considered the most outstanding Baroque church in Vienna, and that’s no easy feat! Continue along the famous Ringstrasse to see one of the city’s four famous opera houses and The Albertina Museum. Then, make your way to the beautiful and shaded Burggarten for a quick cool down before continuing your adventure! After you’ve had a moment’s rest, walk into the inner city to Bräunerstraße, where your guide will show you the best cafés and bars that locals frequent. Sample cheeses, wines and delicious palatschinken! Finally, amble over to the iconic (and gorgeous) St. Stephen’s Cathedral. And now your crash course tour of Vienna is over!
Take a stroll through Bratislava, Slovakia’s charming capital. It’s located on the Danube and surrounded by the Carpathian Mountains. Known for its lively bars and Art Deco cafes, it’s a great place for Czech beer and Bohemian eats. Soak in the relaxed urban lifestyle of 18th-century Old Town and treat yourself to a little something from a Bratislava pastry shop. It’s vacation, after all.

Take a trip through Slovakia’s Communist past. Start by hopping into a Škoda car, Czechoslovakia’s legendary automobile, where a local expert will take you off the beaten path to some amazing Soviet monuments, viewpoints and food markets. There, you can get a taste of the socialist worker’s cuisine and snacks. Finish your tour with a drive into Bratislava’s old town where you can explore before heading back to the ship.
With more than 40 theaters and over 100 museums and galleries, Budapest has a lot to offer. Take to the city by foot and explore all of the region's "must sees."

Budapest has a reputation for being an epic party city, but we can’t be certain. If you could, please follow your host through the city’s scene of abandoned buildings turned raves and report back to us. We hear cheap drinks, techno beats and street art at every stop are to be expected.

Did you know Budapest is actually made up of two cities? On this walking tour, you’ll experience the greatest sites that Pest has to offer. From Parliament to the Jewish Quarter and everything in-between, discover hidden gems and even sample some Hungarian street food from a local market!
Disembark and you will be taken to your hotel in the city. Spend the rest of the day at leisure exploring Budapest and maybe even do some last minute shopping.
All good things must come to an end. Check out and make your own way to the Airport for your flight back home with tons of amazing memories to go with you!
